A beautiful image of a little boy and girl catching a goose - feathers flying everywhere... Although the signature is partly missing, the last few letters and flourish suggest that the artist is Arthur J Elsley. I haven't been able to confirm this, but the subject matter is certainly Elsley's style. This must originally have been an engraving after Elsley, and here it has been reproduced by the photographic process (in 1905). If anyone has any information on this image I would be very interested to know.
Elsley's work became so popular in his day that many of his paintings were reproduced as prints. His cute, mischievous children and pets sold so well that the copper plates actually wore out and had to be re-made.
