| Antique print - Wonderful Christmas Carol Singers - Wassail Bowl & Boar's Head 1888A lovely image from a Rare Victorian Journal.A wonderful image of a row of Christmas Carol Singers, with music in hand and bordered by the Boar's head and the Wassail Bowl which feature as part of the Christmas feast. In wealthy Tudor houses a wild boar would be cooked on Christmas day - slices were carved from it and served with the boars head. Revelers would drink from the wassail bowl, "wassail" meaning 'to be of good health'. The wassail bowl itself was a hearty combination of hot ale or beer and spices and mead, just alcoholic enough to warm tingling toes and fingers of the singers - a lovely period illustration...
