This is a beautifully detailed engraving of a group of lace-winged insects - Nemoptera Coa, the Ant lion (Myrmeleon translatus) and the May Fly (Ephemera Vulgata). "Mayflies are insects which belong to the Order Ephemeroptera (from the Greek ephemeros = "short-lived", pteron = "wing", referring to the short life span of adults).
