| Antique Print Theatrical Theatre ArtBeautiful illustration from an extremely rare British Periodical Exquisite 'flower fancies' representing the personification of flowers in a similar vein to 'Les Fleurs Animee' of J J Grandville, 'Flora's Feast' by Walter Crane and the later Flower Fairies of Cicely Mary Barker and Margaret Tarrant. What is extraordinary is that these wonderful drawings by C. Wilhelm were designed and translated into real life costumes for the stage. "Shakespeare it is who asks ' Tell me, where is fancy bred?' For myself, I will make so bold as to answer 'In Flowerland'. It is quite impossible to resist the claim made by Nature's exquisite hues on the allegiance of the artist and the lover of flowers. It would almost seem as if in one and the same breath they invite and defied imitation" (Wilhelm) A hard set of illustrations to track down, they would make an extra special gift for Christmas.
Here is the daffodil with golden locks and flowing gown in different hues of yellow. With exquisite colouring, this rare image would make an extra special gift for Christmas |
