| | Antique Print Norwich Terrier Dog ArtA book illustration of a beautiful British dog breed photo. The print has a slightly faded look due to the reproduction process - which actually adds charm and gives an antique feel to the print. A lovely image of a drop-eared Norwich Terrier - Airman's Sam Browne. 'Very little is known of the history of the Norwich Terrier, but it is believed that they originated in Cambridge in the latter part of the nineteenth century. The breed were eventually found in parts of Norfolk and one or two enthusiasts crossed them with the Bedlington Terrier, with the Bull Terrier and back again with a small type of Irish Terrier. It is safe to say that the prick eared type get some of their outstanding characteristics from such crossing. As far as can be ascertained, some of the Breed were taken into Leicestershire and there crossed with Border Terriers, thus evolving the drop eared type. At the present time (1930s) the prick eared and the drop eared types of Norwich Terrier are being mated. They are good gun dogs and retrievers.' (1934) |
