| | Antique Print Bulldog Dog Nursery Illustration ArtA wonderful illustration from an extremely rare British Children's Book One of a series of illustrations featuring Doctor Bulldog and his boys - by Gerald Sidney. Bulldog House, Barking, kept by Doctor Bulldog, was a Canine Academy for the sons of Gentledogs. It was quite the school, and very exclusive, for the Doctor only received nine pupils at a time, and even the nine, he declared, wore him to a shadow. Dr Bulldog’s nine pupils include Charles Collie dog, Percy Pug, Master Dachshund and Pom-Pom the Pomeranian together with several members of the Terrier family, including the Scottish Jock of Aberdeen. For once the boys appear to be behaving themselves, two bullterriers, dressed in matching chequered trousers and short coats are dancing together, Jock the Scottish terrier holds his kilt as he jigs around and the collie, pug and bullterrier (?) are attempting some difficult synchronised dance steps. They are being coached by the poodle, the music master, who holds his violin. Dr Bulldog is looking very dapper with his school gown and monocle and admires the boy's antics like a proud father. An absolutely marvellous period illustration. This print would be lovely for a child's nursery |
